Yilan Brick Kiin

Yilan Brick Kiin

By the riverbank near the Yilan Bridge, stands an undisturbed 100-year-old red brick kiln, the Jinmei Brick Kiln. It is also called “Muzai kiln” (目仔窯) because the shape of the kiln resembles the Chinese character “Mu” (目). The huge chimney, which is 37 meters high and has a 2.5-meter diameter at the base, rises into the sky. It is a testimony to the once-prosperous brick kiln industry's history of vicissitudes.
