Glory of Lanyang! Yilan County Retains National Health-Promoting Schools Excellence Award: Planting Roots in Campuses to Protect Schoolchildren and Jointly Creating Quality Learning Environments

On June 23, the K-12 Education Administration of the Ministry of Education and the Health Promotion Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare jointly held the "Academic Year 114 National K-12 Health-Promoting Schools Project Achievement Exhibition" at the NTUH International Convention Center. The Yilan County Government’s Department of Education and the Public Health Bureau have collaborated to implement health promotion initiatives with remarkable results. Highly commended by the Ministry of Education, Yilan County has once again won the "Academic Year 113 Excellence Award for Local Governments Implementing Health-Promoting Schools," continuing its brilliant streak of consecutive wins over the years. Furthermore, Director-General Chen Jin-qi of the Department of Education has spared no effort in promoting various campus health policies. His outstanding dedication has been highly praised by the central government, earning him the prestigious individual "Health-Promoting School Contribution Award." The Department of Education presented these awards at the County Government Meeting today (14th) to share this joy with all citizens of the county.


Acting County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng stated that nurturing a healthy next generation is a top, long-term priority of the county government's administration, as sustained investment in health education is the only way to lay a foundation for the sustainable development of families and society. Yilan County actively establishes cross-disciplinary cooperation mechanisms to plant the seeds of health education in schools and integrate them into the daily lives of students. By combining creative teaching and hands-on activities in schools, while linking the resources of families and communities, the county government hopes to adopt a multi-pronged approach to help students internalize health literacy, thereby realizing the administrative vision of holistic health.


In addition to the frequent accolades received by the county government team, schools in Yilan County have also achieved outstanding and fruitful results in various health promotion project competitions. Notably, Yong-Le Elementary School in Su'ao Township, Yilan County, achieved remarkable results in promoting healthy body weight for students, winning the Merit Award in the "Years 114–115 Health-Promoting Schools Counseling Project—Selection of Exemplary Schools for Healthy Weight." Yilan County Guo-Hua Junior High School won the Top Excellence Award in the "Impact Advocacy" short film competition of the "Academic Year 114 Campus Tobacco and Betel Nut Harm Prevention Education Intervention and Counseling Project" through creative advocacy. In addition, Yilan County Yilan Junior High School and Yilan County Kai-Xuan Junior High School actively cooperated with health promotion policies and served as observation schools this year (Year 115). Their exceptional performance was highly praised, and they were presented with certificates of appreciation by the central government.


The County Government emphasized that schools in the county have been actively committed to health promotion efforts for many years. To have achieved such significant and consecutive awards, the government expresses its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all school administration teams, teachers, parents, and students working on the front lines. In the future, the Yilan County Government will continue to encourage and refine health promotion projects, uphold its original aspiration to protect schoolchildren's health, and unite efforts from all sectors to create a healthier, safer, and more welcoming premium learning environment for all students in the county.
